Orrin E. Miller, 80, lifelong Waterloo resident, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Orrin was born on April 10, 1945, in Waterloo, to Eugene M. and Opal V. (Holley) Miller. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1964 and was then promptly drafted into the United States Navy, serving his country for 4 years. He later went on to earn a degree from Hawkeye College.
Orrin worked as a machinist for John Deere. He was a local history enthusiast, collector of all things, especially books, knives, and tools, and seller of vintage items like his famous “Round Tuit” wooden nickels. Orrin was immensely proud of his restoration project in which he bought and preserved a trunk belonging to Holocaust survivors, Jozef and Sonia Maidan, which has been on display at the Grout Museum in Waterloo. He was a proud member and supporter of the Grout Museum District.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Orrin is survived his dear friends, Jay (Maurine) Crisp and Craig (Anita) Ament.
Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave, Waterloo. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with military honors provided by the United States Navy, American Legion Becker Chapman Post #138, and VFW Post #1623. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery-Waterloo.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grout Museum District.
