Richard “Rich” Dean Ackerman of Janesville, Iowa born November 14, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

Rich worked as a machinist at Construction Machinery Company, then at Hap’s Welding at the same time that he worked at John Deere. He retired March 2011 after 37 years of loyal service from John Deere and was a proud member of UAW Local 838.

Rich was an active member of the Cedar Valley Pistol & Rifle Club, a part of the State Rifle Team National Competitions in the 80’s, and a lifetime member of NRA. He was also a part of the Black Hawk County Sheriff Reserves in the late 80’s. He loved shooting, fishing, and going to auctions.

He is survived by his children Angela Pantilione, Sarah Rangel, Chris Milius, and his brothers and sisters: Wayne & Rose Ackerman; Paul & Charlene Ackerman; Neva Petersen; Virginia & Helmet Dickman; and LaVern Ackerman. His grandchildren were the light of his life: Richard Pendleton, Riley Pendleton, Korenn Pendleton, Lily Milius, Dominik Rangel, and Vincent Rangel. He cherished his many nieces and nephews in which he adored and loved to pick on. He was considered a great friend and neighbor to many.

His parents Lester and Dorothy Ackerman, brothers Don and James Ackerman, sisters Kathy Sagert and Marlene Koopman, precede him in death.
