Maxine E. Stern, 91, of La Porte City, died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born January 17, 1922 in Waterloo the daughter of Don and Margaret Loney Smock Sr.. She married Lloyd Stern on October 21, 1939 in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on March 6, 1967.

She worked as a CNA for many years in Grundy Center and also La Porte City.

Survived by: three daughters, Roxie Weisbrod of Grundy Center; Becky (Wayne) Weisbrod of Bloomfield, IA, Deanie (Bret) Smock of La Porte City; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; seven great – great grandchildren and one sister, Arlene Kern of Florida.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Lloyd; one son, Steve Stern; two daughters, Pat Joyner and Barbara Fleck; three grandchildren; five brothers, Don, Jr., Howard, Darrell, Lloyd and Merlin Smock and one sister, Caryol Tabor.
