Mary K. Steffens was born August 11, 1939, in Long Beach, CA, the daughter of LaVerne and Leone Keys Robinson. She married Lynn Steffens August 11, 1961, in Osage; he preceded her in death on October 30, 2009.

She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school in Osage, Orange Township and La Porte City Elementary School.

Mary’s hobbies were reading, gardening and quilting. During her long battle with asthma and cancer, she was sustained by family, friends, faith and her faithful companion, Gus.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Heidi) of Traer, Ted (Rachele) of La Porte City; four grandchildren, Derek, Eric, Conner and Olivia and two sisters, Anne (Jeff) Walbritz of Long Lake, MO and Alice (Ray) Johnson of Everett, WA.

Preceding her in death were her parents.
