Kirk Matson McQuilkin, 92, of Waterloo, formerly of La Porte City, died Thursday, March 16, at Friendship Village Retirement Center.

He was born July 13, 1924, in La Porte City, son of Greer and Alice Matson McQuilkin. He married Wanda Weatherly on Oct. 19, 1947, in La Porte City. She died July 28, 2010.

He graduated from La Porte City High School and then attended Iowa State. Kirk was a farmer and land owner, before retiring in 1989. He was an elder and member of the choir at First Presbyterian Church in La Porte City, a member of the La Porte City Golf Club and an active Farm Bureau member.

Survived by: two daughters, Dianne (Max) Reckling of Des Moines and Luanne (David) Smith of McFarland, Wis.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Graydon; and a sister, Gretchen.

Services: celebration of life services and inurnment in West View Cemetery will be held at a later date. La Porte City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
