LaVonne Marie Miller Dorman, 98, of Cedar Falls, was born on August 7, 1927, in Ackley, IA. She was united in marriage to Percy Lee Dorman on June 16, 1952. They were married for 43 years until Percy’s death on February 13, 1995. Together, they had nine children.
LaVonne had a very difficult time caring for and raising her 9 unruly and trouble making children. She was a housewife most of her life. LaVonne’s life was filled with the joy of raising her children, and in later years, her grandchildren.
LaVonne was an avid gardener and loved to can the products of her garden. Flowers were a special joy to her, especially lilies. As her health declined in recent years and she was no longer able to work in her garden, she remained a voracious reader. LaVonne especially enjoyed reading her Bible daily. LaVonne’s faith has always been a cornerstone in her life. She was a lifelong member of the Janesville United Methodist Church.
LaVonne is survived by her children, Helen Dettmer of Sumner, Dale (Sheryl) Dorman of Plainfield, IA, Ruth (Paul) Stover of Crystal River Falls, FL, Susan (Brad) Schwinke of Rowley, IA, Beth Ferguson of Hickory, NC, Dana (Jolynn) Dorman of Waverly, Dean Dorman of Fayette, IA, Don Dorman of Cedar Falls, and Amy Russell of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Myrna Uhlenhopp; and many other family and friends. She was preceded by her beloved husband, Percy, son-in-law Gene Dettmer, sister Hazel Lewis, brother Joe Miller, parents Andrew and Susie Riebkes Miller, and her in-laws, Jack and Ann Dorman.
Funeral services for LaVonne will be Friday, May 1, 2026, at Janesville United Methodist Church, 424 Sycamore St, Janesville, IA, with burial to follow at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
