Joseph “Joey” Brian McCraney, Jr., age 33, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 21, 2014 at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital.

He was born April 22, 1981 in Waterloo, the son of Joseph Brian and Cindy K. (Snyder) McCraney Sr. Joey graduated from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 2000. He was united in marriage with Marcia Jo Monter on September 19, 2009 in Waterloo.

Joey worked as a maintenance mechanic at John Deere and Co. foundry in Waterloo and formerly at Tysons-KPR. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and playing softball with his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia of Waterloo; a daughter, Kendal Tyler and a son, Keegan McCraney and a third child on the way; his parents, Joe and Cindy McCraney of Waterloo; a sister, Jenny (Joe) Borseth of Raymond; a brother, Jason (Stephanie) McCraney of Urbandale; his paternal grandmother, Joan McCraney of Evansdale; his maternal grandmother, Ida Mae Snyder of Tripoli, IA; his mother and father-in-law, Roberta (Marc) Monter of Waterloo; 2 brothers-in-law, Nathan (Katie) Monter of Cedar Falls and Cody Monter of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Heather (Jacob) Hickman of Waterloo and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers; 2 cousins, Josh Harp and Scott Snyder; and 2 aunts, Kevin Brown and Penny Burroughs.
