Duane George Keroff, 80, of La Porte City, died at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center on Friday, November 6, 2020.
He was born August 23, 1940, in Waterloo, the son of George and Anna Marie (Wagner) Keroff. He married Sharon Kay Kistner on November 17, 1963, at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. She died October 16, 2019.
Duane was remembered most for being a people person who loved being around others. His most memorable jobs were the 19 years with Prudential Life Insurance and the 16 years with Bob White Sales driving a delivery van. Over the years, Duane was an active member of several community organizations including the Evansdale/Elk Run Jaycees, Evansdale PTA, Evansdale Chamber of Commerce, La Porte City Lions Club and La Porte City Council. For years at Christmastime, Duane would organize and volunteer bell ringing for the Salvation Army. He was a long-time member of St Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City.
Duane enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing cards, and shooting pool. Playing pool was a long-time passion that started in high school and continued to this year. Throughout the years, he participated in several area pool leagues.
Family was always very important to Duane and he loved traveling all over the Midwest to see his children and extended family. Related to his devotion to his wife, Duane was her primary caregiver since she was diagnosed with MS in 1994. He never wavered in devotion to her even in the latter years when the effects of her disease progressed.
He is survived by two sisters, Leona Connell of Waterloo and Viola Kingsbury of Forest Lake, MN; four children: Patty (Donny) Theisen of Fridley, MN, Steve (Kathy) of St. Louis‚ MO; Stu (Anne) of South St. Paul‚ MN; and Spencer (Lisa) of Ankeny; nine grandchildren: Nicole and Ben (Patty), Philip (Steve), Maddie and Sam (Stu), Chloe, Josiah, Layla and Liliana (Spencer); and three great grandchildren: Brittany, Jordan, and Brileon (Patty).
