Rickey Eugene Wion

Rickey E. Wion, 62, of Waterloo, died peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2020 at home.

He was born March 16, 1958 in Waterloo, the son of Arnold “Curly” and Donna (McDowell) Wion.

Rickey graduated from Waterloo East High with the class of 1976.

He married Cynthia “Beth” Schoonover on July 11, 1998 in Cedar Falls; she preceded him in death on January 14, 2018.

Rickey worked in maintenance at the Western Home Communities for 30 years until his retirement.

He was a devoted Christian and member of Prairie Lakes Church. Rickey had a love for karate, country western style dancing, the outdoors and was known for being a handyman. He was a Green Bay Packers and John Wayne fanatic. Family, faith, and friends were everything to him.

Survivors include his son, Trenton Wion of Waterloo; grandson, Adrian Wion; brother, Ronald (Kate) Wion of Waterloo; brother-in-law, John Newman of Washburn; three aunts, Myrna (John) Jamieson, Verna Breitbach, and Shirley McDowell; three nephews, Bryan Sulaiman, Chris Wion, and Jeremy Wion; three nieces, Ann Wion, Brandi (Tim) Ovel, and Carey Newman; and his dog, Punkin.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beth; and two sisters, Carole Wion and Diana Newman.
