Ronald Lee West, of Waterloo, passed away November 24, 2020, at the age of 80, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
He was born September 17, 1940, in Keokuk, son of John Alfred and Felma Boyd Russell. Ron graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1959. He married his lovely wife Bonita Mavis Greenley on April 23, 1961 in Waterloo.
Ron worked at Red’s Transmissions Services in Waterloo for many years. He also worked at John Deere in Waterloo as a mechanic at the northeast site for 28 years. Ron also owned and operated his own transmission shop for many years. He joined the Naval Seabees from 1976 – 1984.
Ron enjoyed fishing and hunting, spending time with family, and was an avid pool player. He was a member of the Raymond Bow Hunting Club. He also loved supporting the casino.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bonita West of Waterloo; two daughters, Valerie (Dan) Nehl, and Angela West‚ both of Waterloo; son, Darren (Becky) West of Solon; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
