Fred P. McLane, 72, of Waterloo, died on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at UnityPoint Health, Allen Hospital.Fred was born on August 14, 1948 in Waterloo, the son of Perry and Ruth (Stearns) McLane.
He had attended school in both Waterloo and Jesup and graduated from High School in 1969.
Fred worked as a welder at Chamberlain Manufacturing from the time he was in high school until it's closure in 1994. He then became the FIRST employee at DC Industries (second only to the owner) where he completed his career as a "jack of all trades" upon his retirement in 2013.
When he was younger, Fred enjoyed hunting & fishing, bowling, golfing and watching & attending NASCAR races. He loved spending free time with his family & friends, he could turn any gathering into a party & always enjoyed having a few beers while socializing. He had a reputation of being a jokester & loved to play pranks on anyone & everyone. Although, he was also considered to be a man of few words.
He worked hard and played harder. He could fix anything and would help anyone at a moment's notice. He was a loyal friend & a proud & loving father. He adored his family & always lovingly teased them, egging them on until a wrestling match ensued usually resulting in said child being pinned & tickled until calling mercy. He loved BIG!
He was a proud Union member where he served as treasurer for many years and also served as treasurer for the credit union. He was also a member of the Waterloo Elks Club.
Survived by his daughter, Michelle Williams of Independence; son, Randy McLane of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dawn, Travis, Emily, and Jack; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kenadee, and Audri, plus one more on the way.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Chad McLane; two sisters, Doris Stacy and Sharon Van Zant; and brother, Dennis McLane.
