Ronald A. “Ron” Plum, 70, of Waterloo, died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at UnityPoint Health, Allen Hospital from complications of unexpected heart surgery.
He was born September 19, 1950 in Waterloo, the son Albert and Marjorie (Weidman) Plum.
Ron graduated from Waterloo East High School with the class of 1968.
He married Karen Adams in December of 1969; they later divorced.
Ron was an inspector at John Deere for many years. He also owned and operated Plum’s Auto during this time. Following his retirement from John Deere, he was able to focus all his attention to his business.
Ron loved to ride his motorcycle, attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for many years. He enjoyed hosting pool parties and was known for his annual 4th of July party. He never met a stranger, often visiting with people at the bars. Stock cars had been a big part of his life, either racing or working on them in the garage.
Survived by four children, Carrie Peters, Jessica Plum, David Plum, and Dina Plum all of Waterloo; his faithful companion, Teannie; three step-children, Jennifer, Jason and Billy Williams; five grandchildren, Korena (Jim) Zilinski, Cameron, Caden and Carsyn Peters, and Damar Wilson, four siblings, Dave (Audrey) Plum of Waterloo, Becky (Keith) Braun of Cedar Falls, Don (Lisa) Plum of Waterloo, and Virg (Nancy) Plum of Waterloo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, Jonathan.
