Jeffrey Byron Skiles

Jeffrey Byron Skiles

November 2, 1962 February 15, 2022

Jeffrey B. Skiles, 59, of Cedar Falls, died February 15, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. He was born November 2, 1962, in Waterloo, son of Byron C. and Janet H. (Jordan) Skiles. Jeff graduated from Columbus High School in 1981. He attended UNI and then graduated from Hawkeye Community College with an Architecture Degree.

He said the best job he ever had was from his high school days at Happy Joe's Pizza, slinging pizzas with his friends.

On July 8, 1988, he was joined in sweet matrimony to Patty Nieland of Edgewood, Iowa, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and enjoyed 33 1/2 years of marital bliss with her before succumbing to cancer with her by his side.

Jeff worked for Modus Engineering (formerly known as Gilmor & Doyle Ltd) for 35+ yrs. (longest-tenured MODUS engineer). He took great pride in his work there and was a constant source of experience and friendship. He was especially proud of the work he contributed to projects with Orchard Hill and the Grundy Center Campus as he was a member.

Jeff loved heading out on the highway on his Harley Wide Glide with Patty next to him on her Street Bob – time that they both cherished together.

He also loved spending time with his two sons, Nick and Derek, teaching them all the inappropriate things he felt he was responsible to teach them as their Dad. And of course, making sure they were well versed in all things Rock-n-Roll (Who needs English class, when you have Classic Rock?!).

He loved watching football with and without friends. He was a forever Viking fan, so he was a man who knew disappointment, and yet remained loyal!

He loved a good comedy, and he loved car restoration and detailing videos on YouTube – they became a daily obsession, especially after receiving a '79 Camaro to restore.

He loved the annual golfing tournament and other annual events and class reunions with his buddies from high school and other classmates.

He absolutely just loved hanging with friends – laughing, joking, and all around being stupid – it was the best of times!! From times on the river, the driveway talks, bonfires, breaking bread, going to church – he was a wonderful man who loved his family, his friends, his neighbors, and his God and he loved to laugh!

Jeff is survived by his wife, Patty, Cedar Falls; two sons, Nick (Brooke) Skiles, Fort Hood, Texas and Derek (Gabby) Skiles, Waterloo; grandsons, Grayson and Jamie; a granddaughter on the way, Harleigh; and four siblings: Gerri (Carl) Cable, Newton, Iowa, Cecee Smith, Cedar Falls, Steve (Johanna) Skiles, Keller, Texas and Janmarie (Dean) Cross, Cedar Falls.
