Susan R. Meier, 66, of Waterloo, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, under Unity Point Hospice Care.
Sue was born on March 19, 1960, in Waterloo, to Willis and Evelyn (Schultz) Ihlenfeldt. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1978 and attended University of Northern Iowa. In 1989, Sue married David A. Meier at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo.
Sue spent her career in finance, working for various mortgage companies. Prior to her retirement, she spent the majority of her career with GMAC Mortgage. When traveling for work, she enjoyed all the places she had the opportunity to visit and, especially, meeting new people along the way.
Sue and David loved tailgating and attending University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa games, creating many wonderful memories together. In her downtime, Sue loved to snuggle up with a good book and get lost in a great story.
An avid shopper, Sue had a wonderful sense of fashion and loved accessorizing. She took great pride in putting together the perfect outfit, and her impressive shoe collection was a reflection of her love for fashion and style. Sue’s vibrant personality, warm heart, and ability to make those around her feel special will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Judy Ihlenfeldt, brother-in-law, Gary Meier.
Sue is survived by her husband, David Meier of Waterloo; children, Samantha (Kevin) Shildneck of Johns Island, SC and Daniel (Cassi McMullen) Meier of Minneapolis, MN; grandson, Max Shildneck; siblings, Nancy (Jim) Storey of Waterloo and Jane (Doug) Keller of Hudson; brother-in-law, Dennis (Sheila) Meier; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
