John Steidler, 81, of Waterloo, died Friday, September 11, 2026, at his home under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born September 4, 1945, in Waterloo, son of John and Gladys (Kidd) Steidler. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1964, and later from Hawkeye Community College.
John married Lee Ann Cameron on September 01, 1973, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. He worked for Pinkerton as a security guard at John Deere for 25 years, retiring in 2008.
He was known to be a talker, sometimes making it hard to get a word in. He knew someone everywhere he went it seemed and loved to gossip. He was a true family man who loved his grandkids dearly, they were the light of his eye. What started as an annual fishing trip with family and friends lasted 20 years, eventually turning into a guy’s week. John was up for anything, especially a road trip, most notably a 50-year anniversary trip to Gatlinburg, TN, and a trip with six children to the Ertle Toy Factory and Field of Dreams. Earlier in life he enjoyed bowling and walked three miles every day.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann of Waterloo, daughters, Carrie (Joel) Munoz of Elkhart, In, and Kelly (Bob) Bauler of Waterloo, grandchildren Dillon Sampson and Lily Bauler, sister Jackie Miller of Waverly, brothers-in-law Mike (Rose) Cameron of Raymond, and Jim (Jan) Cameron of Jesup. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Spragle, brothers-in-law Larry Spragle and Allan Miller, and a niece Ann Hartman.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
