Madeline “Maggie’ Gleason passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Maggie was born on November 4, 1935, in Santa Rosa, California to Frank and Lily (Pete) Domingues. Maggie was orphaned at an early age and grew up in Stewart Indian Boarding School in Carson City, Nevada from the age of 5 until she graduated high school. She married Norville Gleason in Virginia City, Nevada, although they later divorced, they remained friends through the years.

Maggie was a devoted follower of Jesus-her faith was the foundation on how she lived her life. She was a long-time member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Elk Run Heights, Iowa.

In her younger years Maggie was an avid bowler, an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes and she canned the most delicious pickles and spicy tomato juice. She enjoyed going to the casino and loved traveling, especially to California and Nevada to visit relatives. Her greatest joy however was her family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend.

Maggie worked a few different jobs during her lifetime. She was a people person and excelled in working with the public at Porky’s Red Carpet, GMAC Mortgage, and Waterloo Community Schools, retiring at 80 years old.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son, John Gleason, granddaughter, Miranda Held, siblings, Frank Domingues and Marylou Domingues, her foster mom, Eva, and her beloved dog Scooby.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary (Dan) Fitch, James Gleason, Ray Gleason, Helena (Kevin Shillinglaw) Dahlen, Rochelle (Chuck) Held; grandchildren, James (Angel) Marcus, Tim Marcus, Irisa (Brett) Payton, Amber (Randy) Demro, Carly (Nathen) Pohlman, Eric (Amber) Gleason, Jordan Fitch, Jennifer Kirchmann, Luke (Megan) Gleason, Joshua (Kelsey) Dahlen, Brandon (Taylor) Held, Megan (Reno) Rolle, Austin Gleason, Marissa Held, Travis (Brandy) Gleason; 32 great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Julia Parker and Billy Domingues; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

    1. Gwen Ferrie says:

I am sorry for your loss. I loved your mom growing up. She was my neighbor and I would always help watch Rochelle while she worked when she needed someone. She was the kindest and loving person. My prayers are with your family. God Bless

  2. Rachel Miller Solis says:

My deepest condolences. I adored Madeline! She was the mom everyone wished they had, and I was always a little envious that my best friend got to have someone so incredibly loving and special at all times. Since I didn’t grow up with a mother in my home, Madeline always seemed to welcome me into hers and always treated me with kindness. She went above and beyond with an open door and good foods. It wasn’t until I grew up & had my own children that I realized exactly what she was doing.
She fed me, let me sleep over (even on school nights), and created the kind of home I never wanted to leave. A home! She also created the best friend a girl could ever have! I will forever be grateful for all these special gifts. Sending big hugs to the whole family. Heaven truly gained an angel. ❤️
