Gary Lee Ohrt, 87, of Evansdale, Iowa, passed August 5, 2026, surrounded by his wife and family. Gary was born November 26, 1938, to Dale and Helene (Parker) Ohrt. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1956. From there, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Gary retired from the Waterloo Fire Department after 25 years of service.

He married Sandra Deitrick and was blessed with two children. He later married Laurie Miller and was blessed with two more children. In 1988, he married the love of his life, Claudia Perry.

Gary is survived by three of his children, Robert Slater and wife Mary of Waterloo, Nicole Ohrt of Waterloo, and Tianna Ades and husband Jeremy of Raymond. His family also includes many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gerald, a sister Cheryl, and a daughter Cheryle.

Gary’s wishes were to have no service; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
