Gerald LeRoy Magnuson, 91, of La Porte City, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.
He was born on February 26, 1935, in Wausa, NE, son of Carl A. and Genevieve B. Bobenmoyer Magnuson. LeRoy graduated from Geneseo High School in 1953.
LeRoy married Janet Wilt on February 24, 1957, at the United Methodist Church of La Porte City.
He started his career at Lloyd’s DX in La Porte City. Then for many years he drove the La Porte City gas route for Frost Oil Company in Jesup. He later purchased LPC Propane and LPC Bumper to Bumper store (now Car Quest), which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2002.
LeRoy was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City. He volunteered for the LPC Fire Department in his younger years. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. As well as camping, boating, being outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Janet Magnuson of La Porte City; three daughters, Tamara (Bill Ginkens) Richards of Solon, Tracy (Paul) Blisk of Marshall, MO, and Tari (James) Repshire of Edgerton, KS; six grandchildren, John (Crystal) Richards, Grace (Brad) Jipp, Elizabeth (Armin) Covic, Jordan McNamara, Audrey (John) Bourne, and Erica (Evan) Olson; six great-grandchildren, Ella, Henry, Bo, Jack, James, and Anne, and one on the way; brother-in-law, Gary (Jan) Wilt of La Porte City; and sister-in-law, Sandi Magnuson of Fon du Lac, WI.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James D. Magnuson; and three sisters-in-law, Joanne Craft, Donetta Wilson, and Dolores Loane.
Funeral Services: 11:00 am, Friday, August 7, 2026, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 501 Sycamore St., with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
