Melva J. Johnston, 73, of La Porte City, died Friday, February 5, 2021 at her home. She was born on February 20, 1947 in Waterloo the daughter of Melvin and Nelma (Milks) Owen. She married Steven C. Johnston on November 15, 1985 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2020.

     She had worked as a cashier at Walmart and Sam’s Club in Waterloo. Melva enjoyed fishing and gambling and cherished time she spent with her family.

     Survivors include a son, Richard (Sheri) Felderman of La PorteCity; three daughters, Kim (Eric) Kulish of Waterloo, Jennifer Kulish of Waterloo, and Tracy Baribar of Fort Dodge; a stepson, Brandon Calvert of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Nicole White of Waterloo; two sisters, Linda Handy of Altoona, and Sandra (William) Buck of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother, Bennie(Susie) Owen of Norwalk, IA; five grandchildren, Aidan Felderman, Dylan Felderman, Isabella Felderman, Liberty McKiney, Heaven (Trent) Sliekers; and three great-granddaughters.

     She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sisters, Georgette and Barbara Jean Owen.
