Benjamin Adam Keller, 95, passed peacefully into the hands of God on December 3, 2021. He was born on the family farm on October 17, 1926, in Spooner, WI, the fifth child of Glenn and Olive Brockway Keller. He had seven sisters and three brothers whom he cherished and loved spending time with. Ben served in WWII, and later attended school in Miltonvale, KS before stopping in Waterloo to visit friends after graduation in 1949. He met and later married Bevelyn Lee Weisbard on November 8, 1952 in Cedar Falls. They moved to Waterloo and it was here they planted deep roots, built a home and a family he adored. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2008. A man of exceptional character, Ben will be remembered as a wonderful and committed husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
Ben worked at Rath Packing Co. from 1949 – 1983. He loved his family, his church, and watching his beloved Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling to family reunions and fishing trips with his sons and grandsons, growing the best tomatoes in his beloved garden, and riding his bike – yes even into his 80's, but most of all he loved people and spending time with or caring for family, friends, and neighbors. Knowing no retirement in servanthood he was a life-long active member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, his community and neighborhood. He has left a legacy to those who loved him.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lee Keller, on January 13, 2012.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Debbie (Bob) of Arlington, TX and Steve (Lisa) of Waterloo; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, whom he adored and brought him so much joy; siblings, Shirley Young of Topeka, KS, Dorothy Taylor of Newton, Glenn (Phyllis) Keller of Dresser, WI, May (Meredith) Winfield, IL, Paul (Ginger) of Gordon, WI and a host of extended family and friends. Praise God.
