Nicholas “Nic” Dale Lampe, 60, of Smyrna, TN and formerly of Waterloo, died unexpectedly Monday, July 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ft. Carson, CO, the son of Eugene Lampe and Evonne Jean Heath Lampe. Nic graduated from Waterloo Central High School in 1984.
Nic was a jokester at heart. He would always say, “It’s NIC. N-I-C. No K. OK?” Nic enjoyed drawing and painting, being a comedian, and listening to music, especially Rick Springfield. He liked game shows, especially Jeopardy! and other trivia, his dogs, and Diet Mt. Dew, and you could always find him by following his trail of peppermint wrappers. Nic loved to whistle to the point he was annoying and meet new friends as he could talk to virtually anyone. He suffered a serious head injury when he was 16 years old, and as a result, Nic was perpetually a teenager. Prior to his brain injury, Nic grew up in Denver, IA and was always a Cyclone at heart.
Nic is survived by his sisters Natasha (Ken) Packard of Smyrna, TN, Nataleah Morgan of Waterloo, and Tenille (Jeremy) Fish of Washburn; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather Charles Bentley.
A memorial service for Nic will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lockefuneralservices.com.
