Quinter Dale Lichty died in his sleep at his Friendship Village home on Sunday, December 10, 2006, at the age of 81. He was born February 11, 1925, to the late Clark and Hope Lichty on the farm in Orange Township. Quinter graduated from Orange Consolidated School in 1942 and attended Iowa State University for a period. Quinter married Alice Schroeder on July 31, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years; five children: Ron (Marilou Lascari) Lichty of San Francisco, CA; Patti Bammert of Anamosa, Randy (Pat) Lichty of Waterloo, Julie (Carl) Peterson of Harwood, ND, and Beth (Shawn) O’Rourke of Boca Raton, FL; fifteen grandchildren: Mike and Jean Doyle, Brad and Erin Bammert, Tiffany Lichty-Gaffey (Greg), Chris (Rebecca), Joe (Melanie), Clark, Luke, and John Lichty, Eric, Kyle, and Josie Peterson, Ian and Connor O’Rourke; three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Reiley, and Makenna Lichty. He is preceded in death by grandson Matthew Lichty in 1997.

Quinter loved his life’s work of farming. He felt that land was on loan from God and we were but its stewards. In his retirement years he enjoyed his roadside view to the farm’s development through the seasons. He loved his family with a passion. He loved to visit people. He enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed life thoroughly.

Quinter was involved with a number of organizations which included Kiwanis, the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, the Corn/Soybean Association, the Black Hawk County Conservation Commission, the Red Cross, and relief programs through church. This also included helping with the Heifer program. Quinter was a supporter of the county 4-H activities and other youth programs.
