Gene Allen Tangen

Gene Allen Tangen, 72, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at NorthCrest Specialty Care.

He was born on April 15, 1954, in Decorah, son of Sherman and Marlys Pries Tangen. Gene graduated from Waterloo East High School in the Class of 1973.

In his earlier years, he worked in road construction. Later, Gene worked in meat packing at Tyson Fresh Meats for 30 years.

Gene enjoyed his free time, going fishing, camping and watching car racing.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Tangen of Waterloo and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, Julius and Juliana Tangen; maternal grandparents, Henry and Elsie Pries; and two cousins, Mark Bensen and Terry Buck.
