Brian Joseph Phillips, 56, of Waterloo, and formerly of Chicago, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born June 19, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Donald Sr. and Barbara Jean (Hudson) Phillips.

He graduated from High School in Chicago.

Brian married Lillie Corrietha Cryer in August of 1997 in Henry County, Iowa.

He worked in maintenance at Tyson's for many years until retiring in 2004.

Brian was baptized at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a very skilled handyman, practicing his trade by remodeling houses. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and he loved to dance. Brian was well loved and had countless friends.

Survived by his mother, Barbara Phillips of Chicago, Illinois; wife, Lillie Phillips of Waterloo; daughter, Corrietha (Benny Thurmond) Cryer of Waterloo; two sons, Jerry (Bernisha) Smith, Jr. and Elijah Q. Smith, both of Waterloo; fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Donna (Jerome) Grey, Michelle Phillips, Ahmel Phillips, Herman (Julia) Phillips, Donald Phillips, Jr., Ralph Phillips, Kevin (Roquayyah) Phillips, André Phillips, and Curtis Smith all of Chicago, Illinois.

Preceded in death by his father, Donald Phillips, Sr., and three siblings, James Phillips, Renee Cook, and Stanley Todd Phillips.
