Evelyn Pettit, 82, of Waterloo, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born April 19, 1940, in Waterloo, daughter of William and Dorothy (Warneka) Nielsen.

She grew up in Waterloo where she attended East High School. She worked as a custodian for Waterloo Schools.

On October 19, 1962, Evelyn married Donald J. Pettit in Waterloo. He died April 13, 2020.

She loved going to rummage sales, spending time outside, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Craig (Kara) Pettit, Bill Pettit, Scott (Lela) Pettit; and Brad (Mary) Pettit, all of Waterloo; daughter Lisa (Loren Jacobsen) Graveman, Independence, 19 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kim Pressley; daughter in law, Lela Pettit; granddaughter, Tiffany Pettit; and brothers, Caryl Nielsen and Leroy Nielsen.

Memorial Service is at 3:00 PM Friday, January 6, 2023, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo with one hour of visitation before the service. Memorials to the family. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com.
