Barbara Ann "Toni" Straw, 83, of Waterloo, died Saturday, August 27, 2022, at her home.

She was born November 22, 1938, in Independence, the daughter of Leonard and Velma (Crow) Waitman.

Barbara graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1957. She continued her education and graduated from Camp Dodge Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1982.

She married John "Jack" Straw on June 21, 1957 in Independence. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1980.

Barbara worked as a Nurse at Bartel's Nursing Home. Later in life she was the Chief of Police in New Hartford for several years, then became a Private Investigator for Gallagher, Langlas and Gallagher Law Firm until she retired.

Survived by her three sons; Jack (Megan) and John (Micki) Straw of Waterloo, and Joel Straw of Independence; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and siblings, Rex, Jerry, Larry, Bonita, Peggy Jo and Judy; and grandson, Jasper Overman.
