Helen Janaan Trower, 87, of Waterloo, entered Heaven in the arms of Angels on December 4, 2022, while a patient at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. She was born on December 29, 1934, in Strawberry Point, the daughter of Albert and Leta Starr Graesch. Helen graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1952-1953.
She married Bernard Trower on March 21, 1953, in Ponca City, OK. To this union, the couple was blessed with four children.
Helen worked as church secretary at Our Savior's Lutheran Church before beginning a career as secretary for Clark, Butler, Walsh, and Hamann where she retired in 1990. She loved bowling and was inducted into the Women's Bowling Hall of Fame. Helen also enjoyed the outdoors, boating and fishing. Although she might never offer, Helen was always willing to give advice.
Helen is survived by her children: David (Susan) Trower of Waterloo, John (Pam) Trower of Rochester, MN and Janann (Sheryl Johnson) Trower of Waterloo; daughter-in-law, Karla Trower of Ames; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, James; grandson, Nicholas Trower; four brothers Russel, Walter, Floyd and Robert Graesch and sisters, Florence Fuhrman and Eleanor "Tootie" Hill.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM. Memorials should be directed to the family.
