Ruth Arlene McFadden

Ruth Arlene Thompson McFadden, 98, of Cedar Falls, entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Deery Suites of Western Home Communities. Ruth was born on December 2, 1923, in Galesville, WI, the daughter of Julius and Clara Hagested Thompson.

Ruth married William "Bill" McFadden on March 25, 1944, in Treasure Island, CA and the couple was blessed with three daughters. She was a homemaker whose life was caring for her family. Ruth was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo where she was past-president and vice-president of the Women of the Church, past Waterloo AALC Conference treasurer, Bethel Bible studies instructor and coordinated meals for the elderly for ten years. In 2005, Ruth was named Ascension's Sweetheart.

Ruth was a member of the Allen Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the surgical waiting room. She loved doing all kinds of needlework and sewing and enjoyed bowling and traveling with her husband for many years. Summers were spent entertaining friends and family at their river home in Lansing, IA. Avoiding Iowa winters, Bill and Ruth loved spending their winters at their home in Mesa, AZ where they would welcome friends and family.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Jann (Don) Lucas of Leavenworth, KS and Sue (Brent) Nelson of Cedar Falls, and grandchildren, Tori Lucas of Orlando, FL and Tyler Nelson of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; daughter, Lynn; brother, DuWayne Thompson and sisters, Delores Day, Charlotte Buchan and Patricia Bienfang.

No services are planned. Inurnment at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo will take place at a later date.
