Shirley Ann McConaughy, 84, of Hudson, was promoted to Glory on Thursday, August 4, 2022. She was born on June 26, 1938, on the family farm in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Luella Schroeder Primus. Shirley married Kenneth Ralston in 1956 and the couple was blessed with two sons. They later divorced. She married Douglas McConaughy on February 21, 1977, and they were blessed with a son.
Shirley was a selfless and kind woman who was totally dedicated to her family. She would bring a smile to your face, and she lived by the belief that she was "saved to serve" and lived that belief daily. A dedicated prayer warrior, Shirley wanted everyone she met to feel included and wanted. She was a tremendous cook who made holiday events with the family a big event and who openly would tell you she didn't like white milk or tea.
Shirley worked with her husband and his trucking firm. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years and playing Yahtzee later. She also worked with her husband serving God at the Salvation Army.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Larry (Renae) Ralston of Fairbank, IA, Randy (Debra) Ralston of Fairfax, IA, and Matthew (Shawna) McConaughy of Hudson; stepson Kevin (Lori) McConaughy of Allison, IA; stepdaughter Kelly DeVore of Springville, IA; 9 grandchildren, Ryan, Jayson, Ashley, Ainslee, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Courtney, Kimberly and Jay; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda (Jim) Bohlen of Denver, IA and Debra Fober of Pine River, MN; and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, on October 11, 2007.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the Community Church of Hudson, 226 Eldora Road, Hudson, IA at 10:30 AM with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo from 4-7 PM. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
