Ellis 'Al' Cross, 89, of Elk Run Heights, died at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Saturday, July 16, 2022. He was born May 21, 1933, in Waterloo, to Marshall and Della (Yoder) Cross. He graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1951. After high school he started working for the Matt Parrott company, and then served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. After the army he worked for Curtiss 1000 as a sales representative retiring from there after 30 plus years.

Al married Cheryl (Stone) Cross-Bushnell, they later divorced, he then married Elizabeth (Junker) Cross, they later divorced. He married Bonnie (Gutknecht) Cross on December 1, 1991, in Waterloo.

He served as a councilman for Elk Run Heights for two terms. He enjoyed helping with city projects in Elk Run, especially working with Tom James at City Hall. He once designed a logo for the city. Al also loved to sing gospel songs, and was an excellent woodworker, cutting and installing crown molding in Bonnie and his entire house.

Al is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Elk Run Heights; daughters, Michelle 'Mikki'(Joseph) Marsh Bussy of Tucson, AZ, Peggi Cross of AZ; son, Thomas (Kristi) Cross of NM; step-sons, Michael (Mary) Cross of Wichita, KS, and Mark (Laura) Stewart of Lenexa, KS; step-daughter, Pam Stewart of Waterloo; brother, Charles 'Chuck' Cross of Waterloo; sister, Shirley (Delbert) Merritt of Waterloo; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua Cross; brothers, Eugene, Harold, and Merville Cross, and Ivan Cross in infancy; sisters, Madeline Tolley, Maxine Carr, Luella Bergmeier, and Georgia Nikerson; brothers-in-law, Denver Carr, and Howard Nikerson; and sister-in-law, Kay Cross.

A graveside service with Military Rites will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com/
