Luther J. Phillips, 86, of Waterloo, passed away on July 5, 2026 in Minnesota.
***Services will be 12:30 pm, Friday, July 17, 2026 at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services. **

Luther J. Phillips, 86, of Waterloo, passed away on July 5, 2026, in Minnesota.

Luther was born May 11, 1940, in Sallis, MS, where he was raised by his parents.

Luther met and married Sammie K. Evans. They had eight children together. He moved his family to Kansas where he was employed by Crystal Clear Glass Company. He later moved his family to Waterloo to work for John Deere in the tractor factory, where he retired. He enjoyed driving tractors and was a hard worker. Luther loved spending his time gardening, fishing, and hunting. Luther was also a pro at fixing cars! He then married Nora Ann Greer.

Luther is survived by children, Margaret Phillips, Carol (Bobby) Phillips-Davis, Gerald S. (Nancia) Phillips, Trishanda (Gary) Phillips-Gibson, Artisha Phillips, Jessie Greer, Antonio Greer, and Tiffany Greer; four sisters, Joe Betty Snow, Margaret (Bobby) Coffee, Mathie Greer, and Hattie Riley; five brothers, Doston Phillips, Eugene Phillips, Johnston Phillips, Johnny Phillips, and Willie Phillips; uncle, Herman Wise; 44 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nora; children, Luther J. Phillips, Arthur Evans, Jimmie Phillips, and Donna Phillips; brother, Larry Phillips; and two sisters, Dorothy Evans and Zella Harmon.
