Kevin Nahnsen, 59, of Waterloo, IA, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 6, 2026, at his home of natural causes.
He was born on October 23, 1966, in Fort Dodge, IA, son of Stanley and Nancy Treichel Nahnsen.
Kevin graduated from Perry High School in 1985. He was a United States Navy veteran.
He married Stephanie Reed on February 3, 1995, in Waterloo.
Kevin was an auto parts salesman for Rydell Chevrolet for many years beginning in 1988. In 1996, he and Stephanie moved to Ohio where he worked in the same capacity for various car dealerships. In 2002, they moved back to Waterloo where he worked at Rydell’s for 18 years. Kevin also worked for Witham Ford for a year before retiring in 2023.
He was a Lego enthusiast, also a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Charles Schultz comic strips–Peanuts!! He had and loved his many cats over the years. In high school he played trumpet in the school band, which he also played later in the Navy.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his father, Stanley Nahnsen and brother, Todd (Michelle) Nahnsen, a niece, Aubrey Marsh, all of Enid, OK; a niece, Ashley (Rodney) Miller of Norwalk, IA and their daughter, Zoey McCormick and step children, Samantha, Jayden and Payton; brother-in-law, Steve (Kim) Depping of Newton, IA; and Stephanie’s mother and step-father Jeff and Nancy Thompson and sister-in-law, Sherie Thompson, all of London, OH.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Nahnsen; a sister, Dawn Depping; nephew, Sean Depping; Stephanie’s father and his wife, Floyd and Judy Reed; and his father’s second wife, Chlo Nahnsen.
Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering: 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. The family requests casual attire. Please come as you are.

Enjoyed the times I and Stephanie & Kevin went out to dinner and my birthday party at their home. They were a happy couple, which made everyone around them comfortable and happy too. He’ll be missed!
