David Lee Cummings

Dave L. Cummings, 78, of Evansdale, died on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born January 19, 1944, in New Hampton, son of Dale E. and Elizabeth Luecht Cummings. Dave attended Waterloo Schools. He served proudly in the United States Navy. He later attended trade school earning a welding certificate. Dave married Rebecca "Becky" Chihak on March 19, 1966, in Washburn.

Dave worked for John Deere & Co for 12 1/2 years in maintenance and then as a welder with Pipefitters Local 125 for 27 years.

He was a member and past commander for Evansdale AMVETS Post #31, member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge 105, member of both, Local 838 and Local 125 labor unions, and served on funeral honor guard detail. Dave also volunteered for Cedar Valley Hospice.

Dave is survived by his wife, Becky of Evansdale, two sons, Timothy (Kim) Cummings of Waterloo, and Christopher (Dana) Cummings of Eldora; six grandchildren, Cheyenne (Zachary) Phillips of Waterloo, Ashley Cummings of Cedar Falls, Austin Cummings of Elk Run Heights, Cortnie (Tyler) Weber of Washburn, Carys Cummings, and Charles Cummings, both of Eldora; five great-grandchildren, Kyara, Ramir, Ari, Olly, and Felix; one brother, Tim (Tina) Cummings of Waterloo; three sisters, Diane Cummings of East Dubuque, IL, Deborah (Bob) Frickson of Evansdale, and Katherine Reuter of Waterloo.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Todd Cummings; great-grandson, Finnick; two brothers, Dewayne, in infancy, and Daniel Cummings; and one sister, Sandra Rand.

Family directed memorial services will be held at later date. Dave will be inurned in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military Rites performed by Evansdale AMVETS Post #31 and U.S. Navy Honor Detail.
