Mary Lou Sankey

Mary Lou Sankey, 88, of Red Oak, formerly of Washburn, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, in Red Oak.

She was born on August 30, 1937, in Washburn, daughter of William F., Sr., and Laura E. Koepke Sass. Mary Lou married Leslie R. Sankey, Sr, on August 20, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died. Nov. 27, 1996.

Mary Lou was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for children as a babysitter.

She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washburn, and belonged to the Altar Guild, Naomi Circle and Worship Committee.

Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Leslie R. (Lori) Sankey, Jr., and John (Cynthia) Sankey, both of Red Oak; two grandchildren, Cheryl Ann Sankey and Kayla Lynn Sankey, both of Bristow; and one great-grandchild, Zoey, and one on the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie R., Sr.; sisters, Laurine Schrock, Luella Brown, Arlene Dobbins, Beverly Cunningham, and Berdine Cole; and brothers, Luverne, Donald, William F., Jr., and Wilbert H. Sass.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.

Visitation: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Locke Garden View Chapel.
