Fonda Mae Thresa Stitt

Fonda Mae Thresa Stitt, 101, of Waterloo, passed away on Monday, December 18th, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Fonda was born on December 18th, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa, to her parents George Wesley & Thresa (Geier) Burk. She grew up on the family farm with her 10 siblings. She graduated from Waterloo East High School and after high school, she began her 30 year career with Corrugated Box Factory, now called Weyerhaeuser Company. On August 2, 1941, Fonda was united in marriage to Clyde Stitt; the couple welcomed 3 children into their family. In her later years, Fonda worked as a hostess at Freeman's Cafe in Waterloo.

She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Waterloo for over 70 years where she sang in the choir and taught children's Sunday School class. In her free time, Fonda enjoyed playing Bingo, playing cards and games, coin collecting, playing a competitive game of Mexican Train, but what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family. When Fonda was in her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating, and loved watching Shirley Temple, crediting her for her tap-dancing skills.

Fonda is survived by her children Steve (Sharon) Stitt of Cedar Falls and Vicki Clinton of Waterloo; 7 grandchildren, Troy Calease and Shari Goldstine, Steven (Malinde) Stitt, Scott (Julie) Stitt and Sally (Todd) Dietz, Renee Marmie and Rochelle (Troy) McGarvey; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Sandra Hanson; 6 sisters and 3 brothers.

The funeral service for Fonda will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 11:00 AM at Grace Fellowship Church, 1760 Williston Ave., Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow funeral services at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family.
