Jeananne Tharp, 93, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 31, 2023, at home.

She was born August 23,1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James and Leota Cromer Farrell.

Jeananne graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls with the class of 1948. She then attended Temple University in Philadelphia for 2 years.

She married Robert Grubb on September 23, 1951 in Philadelphia; he preceded her in death on April 22, 2000. She married Robert Tharp on November 23, 2001 in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on September 7, 2014.

Jeananne sold shoes from 1964 to 1981 for Black's Department Store and Fox Shoe Store until retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a lector, member of Rebekah Circle, and helped with funeral luncheons. Jeananne enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and reading – especially historical novels until she could no longer read due to macular degeneration. She had so many fun memories from travelling with Bob.

Survived by her daughter, Chris (Todd) Swacker of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Tara Ingersoll, Doug Arnold, Steven Grubb, Jamee Grubb and Tessa Swacker; three great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Grubb of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Grubb and Robert Tharp; sons, David Grubb and Gerry Grubb; and two grandchildren, Scottie Grubb and Taylor Swacker.
