December 19, 1936 May 17, 2026

The Lord called Larry Henry Fleshner, 89, of Dysart, to his eternal resting home on May 17, 2026, while a patient at UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 19, 1936, in Parkersburg, IA, the son of Bennie and Hattie Fleshner. Larry grew up on a farm north of Parkersburg with his one brother, Lee, and three sisters, Laverne, Lois and Donna. The family moved to Jesup where he graduated from Jesup High School in 1955.

Larry worked on the family farm and at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo until he married Barb Gavigan in 1959. They moved to Brandon and later to North of Dysart. Larry and Barb had two daughters, Laura and Connie. He continued to farm the land, raise hogs, and work at Rath. Barb and Larry divorced. Larry married Violet Shedeck Hanna in 1985. He continued to farm and sell seed. Larry was one of the top seed salesmen in the area. Larry’s step-grandson, Nic Hanna, began working for him on the farm. He took great pride in improving his farming operation, the land he farmed, and his equipment throughout his life.

A man of faith, Larry was a member of Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Laura Fleshner of Waterloo; stepsons, James (Suzanne) Hanna of Middleboro, MA and Lynn (Tina) Hanna of La Porte City; stepdaughter Krista (Tom) Merfeld of La Porte City; 4 step grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Hanna of Hingham, MA, Jessica (Micah) Wilson of Harper, OR, Nic (McKaila) Hanna of La Porte City, and Kortney (Jeffry) Cruz of Des Moines; 8 step great-grandchildren; son-in-law Mike Zientek; and sister Lois Rieger of Waterloo.
