Eddie Frank Herbert, 87, of Waterloo, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was born on October 17, 1936, in Kansas City, MO, to Frank and James “Jimmie” Shirley Gump Herbert. Eddie married Ellen Victoria Coonrad on July 6, 1957, and together they were blessed with five children. He owned and operated Expert Tree Company, which he founded in 1954, and served in the US Army from 1957-1962.

Eddie was a man of faith in Christ who faithfully cared for his family and enjoyed serving people. Whether they were clients of his business or members of his church, people knew Eddie’s sincere interest in them and his commitment to serving them well. He is remembered as a generous giver, great storyteller, and hard worker; he even worked the morning of his wedding. After all, he would tell you, he needed to buy a suit!

Eddie is survived by Ellen, his loving wife of 66 years; his children Kelly (Evan) Hellwig, of Springfield, OH, Jay Herbert of Waterloo, Toni (Jon) Leisinger of Council Bluffs, Pam (Jim) Williams of Edmond, OK, and Clint (Cristina) Herbert of Waterloo; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Gary (Cheryl) Herbert of Lake Lotawana, MO and Jonathan (Pat) Herbert of Springfield, MO; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by sister Peggy McConnell, brother David Herbert, grandchild Rebecca Williams and great-grandchild Zion Leisinger.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at Grace Baptist Church, 1110 4th Street SW, Waverly, with a private family graveside service to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM, at Locke on 4th, 1519 W. 4th Street, Waterloo, IA 50702. Memorial contributions should be directed to Grace Baptist Church in Waverly.
