Joseph Edward Powers, 64, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 10, 2023, due to ALS.

He was born December 29, 1958, in San Diego, CA, son of John "Jack" Powers and Colleen White Powers.

Joe graduated from Columbus High School in 1978. He had previously worked at Iowa Hoist and Ryder Logistics.

Joe is survived by two brothers, Tom (Donna) Powers, and Tim (Timi) Powers of Waterloo; four nephews, Jake (Hailey), Josh (Jody), Nick (Krystle) all of Waterloo, and Scott (Lexi) of Lacey, WA; and seven great-nieces and nephews, Sean, Margo, Brayden, Brennyn, Colin, Amelia, and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kevin; and great nephew, Brylan.

Joe was a great person with a joy of cooking and a passion for pro football, to the point he scheduled vacation to watch games. A true Dallas Cowboys fan with a spirit that never wavered for his team.

Last year the ALS diagnosis was met with calm acceptance. He let family and friends share in his ALS journey, showing us his stamina, determination, and patience. He was valiant. We were blessed by his goodness and gracious heart.

In appreciation for their tremendous support, memorials will be given to the ALS Iowa Chapter and Cedar Valley Hospice.
