Dave Rainey, 93, of Waterloo, IA, died Thursday, October 27th, 2022. Dave was born July 31st, 1929 in Ruleville, Mississippi to Andrew and Lena Rainey. He married Audrey Bibbs on November 20th, 1945 in Ruleville, Mississippi.
He took his responsibilities seriously to provide for his wife, Audrey, and their 7 children and worked hard to do so at Rath Meat Packing Company, where he worked for over 30 years. Because he valued education, he steadfastly attended Black Hawk Technical Institute to proudly receive his GED in 1991 under the instruction of Dorothy Hanisch, mother of Barb Rainey, his daughter-in-law. His strong belief in education was not only manifested in his own life, but in his adamant encouragement to his children to further their education. He found his gift from God in his beautiful voice, singing songs of the Blind Boys, Clouds of Joy, the Jordanaires and other gospel singers in men's quartets and church choirs. He was a strong man of faith and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, witnessed through his active participation in and support of his church.
He is survived by Audrey Rainey, his wife of 76 years, Lee (Kathy) Rainey, son, of Minneapolis, MN; Dorothy Rainey, daughter, of Cedar Falls, IA; Andrew (Barb) Rainey, son, of Dallas, TX; David (Gladys) Rainey, son, of Waterloo, IA; Elizabeth (Terry) Anderson, daughter, of Waterloo, IA; Willie (Tracy) Rainey, son, of Minneapolis, MN; and Marcellus (Cari) Rainey, son, of Dallas, TX. He has 16 grandchildren: Kris (Chad) Jacobson, Michelle (Charlie) Livingston-Thorstad, Heather Rainey, Antonio (LaToiya) Mays, Andrae' Rainey, Nicole (Adam) Denniston, Maurice (Valerie) Rainey Williams, Donita Brandon, Jason (Diana) Rainey, Portia Rainey, Charles Mays, Hernando Rainey, Zackary (Emily) Rainey, James Rainey, Stacia Rainey, and Alyssa Rainey. He has 17 great grandchildren: Jordan Snipes, Kyndall Mays, Mikaela, Chance, and Isabella Jacobson, Chasen, Jayden, and Shylah Livingston, Mateo and Nevaeh Rainey, Lola and Nova Denniston, Maurice Jr., Gabriel, Valencia, Luke, and Carter Williams. In addition, he is survived by many sisters-in-law, and special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, John, Joe, McKinley, Roosevelt, and Albert; and 3 sisters, Maggie Lee Rainey, Jenny Mae Robinson, and Estella Gaines; and beloved grandson, Charles Mays. He now joins them, rejoicing to be in the arms of his Lord and Savior.
