Sharon June Phillips Conn, 80, of Waterloo, went to be with Jesus Wednesday, June 24, 2026, while a patient at UnityPoint Allen Hospital. She was born on June 3, 1946, in Iola, WI, the daughter of Cecil and Jessie Zornes Phillips. Sharon graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1962, and married Thomas Conn on July 2, 1964, in Des Moines. To this union, the couple was blessed with two children. She worked as a loan officer for John Deere Community Credit Union until her retirement.
Sharon loved her family as much as was humanly possible-her husband, children, grandchildren, and all the spouses, and she wasn’t afraid to tell you or show you. She was involved in all their activities as they were growing, and she took delight in making holidays fun. At holiday time, Sharon was always dressed to the nines in such outfits as a clown for Halloween, all green at St Patty’s Day, or red, white and blue for July 4th. Birthdays for her were a big deal and she even still gave May Day Baskets to her neighbors. Sharon lived to crochet and she loved to give crocheted things she had made to others. She would crochet Koozies, hats, scarves, afghans, or coasters, and you knew she loved you if you have one of these handmade gifts.
Sharon collected things like cars, coins, rocks, stuffed Panda bears, and cups from various states. She enjoyed time on the deck, flowers and plants. But more than anything else, Sharon’s pride and joy were her kids and grandkids-she couldn’t love them enough. She was also a very resilient woman who was diagnosed with cancer 25 years ago and only given two years to live. Her grandchildren kept her going, blessing her daily life.
Sharon is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Tom Conn of Waterloo; son TJ (Kathie) Conn of Dunnellon, FL; daughter Tracy (Dean) Platte of Fairbank; grandchildren Joann Conn, Joshua Boria, Samantha (Hunter) Roseberry, Trey Conn, Ross (Lindsay) Platte, Alana (Isaac) Platte-Brownell, Reegan (Corbin) Simmons, Adri (Parker Mueller) Platte, and Becca (Braiden Vanlengen) Platte; 4 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; brother Ralph (Monica) Phillips of Yucaipa, CA; sister Candy Eytcheson of Des Moines; and her dog, Lucy. She was preceded by her siblings Cecil Phillips, Linda Hashman, and Darlene Blanchard.
