Larry L. Schellhorn, 78, of Grundy Center, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
He was born on January 30, 1948, in Oran Township, son of Erwin L. and Berdina B. Meier Schellhorn. Larry graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1966. He honorably served in the United States Navy during Vietnam.
Larry married Connie Stoner on May 25, 1968; they later divorced. He then married Deborah Frost in 1981.
Larry was known for his skill as a contractor, carpenter, and craftsman. He leaves a legacy in the Waterloo area in the houses and buildings he built and improved. He took great pride in the classic cars and trucks he restored. His hobbies and work were often interchangeable. He was a kind, respectful, and good-hearted man.
Larry is survived by his soulmate, Deborah Schellhorn of Waterloo; children, Camela (Dieter) Vogel of Jefferson, GA, Shane (Kristi) Frost of Cedar Falls, Trevor (Del) Schellhorn of Grundy Center, and Aimee (Jeremy) Furman, and Sara (Tony) Varda, both of Waterloo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arlan (Linda) Schellhorn of Elk Run Heights, and Vernon (Judy) Schellhorn of Jesup, Iowa; and two sisters, Judy (Allen) Bass, and Theresa (Marty) Braby, both of Waterloo.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Gathering: 2:00 – 5:00 pm, June 20, 2026, at Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, 706 Colleen Ave, Evansdale.

I was sorry to see Larry’s passing, what a Great and True friend he was. Our condolences to you all. He was a go to guy; over all the years he helped our family we could not have done without him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
