Sandra Lee Timmerman

Sandra Lee Timmerman, 87, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids.

She was born March 15, 1939, in Waterloo, daughter of Ray and Theo Jean Mapes DuBois. Sandra graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1957. Sandra married Bruce G. Timmerman on August 6, 1961, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2011.

Sandra earned her LPN in nursing from Allen Nursing College in 1970. After graduation she worked in nursing for 22 years at Friendship Village. Following her retirement from nursing she opened a children’s clothing store, The Kids Closet, with her best friend, Dee Damro. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Northern. She went on to work as a social worker at West Village Care Center in Independence until her retirement in 1997.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 65 years. Sandra loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her dogs, Tillie and Ruby. She also enjoyed reading, watching the news, and going fishing with Bruce.

Sandra is survived by her children Brett (JoAnn) Timmerman of Bartlesville, OK, Leigh Ann Lyons of Waterloo, Jon (Laura) Timmerman of Blanding, UT, and Pamela (Justin) Grotegut of Hiawatha; 11 grandchildren, Kile Timmerman, Matthew (Ianne) Cook, Mitchell (Brooke) Cook, Grace (Joe) Usher, Desiree (Derek) Baumler, Jacob (Elizabeth) Timmerman, Noah Hurley, Brooke (Nick) Grotegut, Mason (Kacie) Timmerman, Madison (Fred) Bassett, and Gunner Grotegut; 17 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Alex, Levi, Bella, Eli, Emriah, Liam, Snow, Fox, Zayne, Maison, Quinleigh, Odin, Paityn, Paisley, Charlotte, and soon to be Alex.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Timmerman; great-granddaughter, Skylar Timmerman; and brother, Sherman DuBois.

Memorial Services: 10:30 AM Friday, June 5, 2026, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1024 W 8th St., with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo.
