Gordon "Gordy" Clarke, 69, of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at his home in Hudson after a short and tough battle with cancer.
Gordy was born September 1, 1955, in Cedar Falls, IA, the son of Joel and Blanch (Steuben) Clarke. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1973. He married Cathy Ann Parizek on May 15, 1982, at the Community Church of Hudson; she preceded him in death on October 17, 2020.
Gordy started his working career at Hudson Hardware Plumbing and Heating in 1974, working as a plumber until 1989. After leaving the Hardware, he started working at the Hudson Community School as head maintenance for 29 years, retiring in 2018. Gordy was also a member of the Hudson Fire Department for over 30 years, serving in many capacities including Station Captain and Pump Operator. Serving the community of Hudson was his pride and joy. He loved helping those in need, responding to thousands of calls in his time on the department, even after falling ill.
Like Cathy, Gordy's twin grandchildren meant the world to him. He loved spending time with them and spoiling them with his love. Gordy was also an avid golfer. He and Cathy spent many years playing golf at Oakleaf Country Club in Reinbeck. He was also a member of the Hudson Post #82 Sons of AMVETS, serving as treasurer for many years. He spent many hours bartending and helping with events held at the AMVETS Hall, including organizing Pepper Nights. He had a heart of gold and always thought of others before himself. When others asked for help, he never hesitated to jump in and do what needed to be done.
Gordy is survived by his daughter, Tina (Nick) Petersen of Hudson; his two grandchildren, Brielle and Cael Petersen; and a brother, Mel (Rosetta) Clarke of Tigard, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Leonard Clarke.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Hudson Cemetery, where honors will be conducted by the Grundy County Honor Guard and Hudson Fire Department. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo.
