Ross W. Greathouse, 73, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born February 7, 1953, in Waterloo, son of Robert L. and Iola M. Shannon Greathouse. Ross graduated from Independence High School in 1972. He married Roberta L. Ager on May 18, 1985, at the Nazarene Church in Waterloo.

Ross worked for the City of Waterloo for 25 years. He began as a sanitation employee, before transferring to the Street Department where he drove truck and worked on patching roads. He retired from the city in 1995.

He was member of the Waterloo Eagles Club Aerie 764. Ross loved his 1966 Chevrolet Bel Air. He loved to dance. He also enjoyed spending his time tending to his yard and listening to country music.

Ross is survived by his wife, Roberta Greathouse of Waterloo; son, Craig (Kristal) Greathouse of Dysart; two grandchildren, Natalie and Arthur; sister, Ruth (Clark) Behrens of Rock Island, IL; one brother, Ron (Pamela) Greathouse of Washington; an aunt, Leona Herman of Waterloo; and a lifelong friend, Robert (Beth) Weipert of Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; parents; and one brother, Roger Greathouse.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Waterloo.
