Zina Vanessa East

Zina Vanessa East

February 5, 1965 December 24, 2022

Zina Vanessa East was born on February 5, 1965, in Panama City, Panama, the daughter of Edgar F. & Elma (Bailey) East. Growing up, Zina was faced with physical and cognitive challenges, but was happy, and even happier that her parents were her loving and caring guardians, all her life. Even though Zina was limited in ways, there was a special magic about her; she endeared herself to anyone she met and touched the lives of many people. She was always happy for human connection and physical touch and when she saw her family and friends, her face would light up and she would give the biggest smile because she LOVED her family so much!

If you had the pleasure of meeting or knowing Zina, she was a charming person and made people feel good about themselves, just by her presence. Many people saw the loving person on the inside, instead of her disabilities. Zina will be tremendously missed by her family, and her life has left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her parents Edgar & Elma East of Cedar Falls; brother Edgar A. (Lindsey) East of Waterloo and sister Wilma East of Brooklyn, NY; nieces and nephews Vanessa, Samuel, Lucia, and Benjamin East; uncle David East; cousins Raymond G. East & Gian East. Zina rejoins in Heaven her paternal and maternal grandparents and uncle Raymond C. East.

Zina passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo. Private family services will be held at Locke Funeral Home at Tower Park in Waterloo, with burial to follow at the Waterloo Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.lockefuneralservices.com.
