David O. Davis, Jr., 87, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
David was born on January 1, 1939, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of David O. Davis, Sr. and Nellie L. (Berry) Davis. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1957. On November 14, 1958, he married Lula Sykes in Waterloo, and together they shared 67 years of marriage.
David worked at Hawkeye Steel until its closing and later joined the University of Northern Iowa, where he served as a custodian until his retirement in 2005. He was a longtime member of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish.
He cherished time spent hunting with his father and enjoyed staying active through working out, bowling, and watching sports. David will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Davis of Waterloo; six children: Laurel Starks of Atlanta, GA; Maurice Leroy (La Shay) Davis of San Diego, CA; Shelly Davis of Aurora, CO; Christopher Davis of Cedar Rapids; Michael (Tyra) Davis of Chicago, IL; and Milo Davis of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, numerous great‑grandchildren, and numerous great‑great‑grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Derrick Davis.
Private family services will be held, with burial at Waterloo Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family.
