James “Jim” Phillip Moore

James “Jim” Phillip Moore

September 6, 1949 November 7, 2023

James P. "Jim" Moore, 74, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, due to an aneurysm.

Jim was born on September 6, 1949, in Waterloo, Iowa, to his parents George and Stella (Domeszwski) Moore. He grew up in Waterloo, where he attended Orange School from Kindergarten until his graduation from high school. He went on to further his education and attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he obtained his bachelor's degree. In August of 1973, Jim was drafted into the United States Army, honorably serving his country. After his time in the military, Jim met Cheryl Reines and the couple was united in marriage on March 11, 1978, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls; they were blessed with 3 children, Charles, Robert, and Kristina.

He began his insurance adjusting career at Pittsburg Steel in Des Moines, later transferring to USF&G Insurance Company, which later became St. Paul Insurance, where he retired as their regional manager. He also owned several rental properties in Cedar Falls, while still working his career as an insurance adjuster.

In Jim's free time he enjoyed golfing (even getting 7 holes in one!), fishing and fishing trips to Canada with friends and his two sons, visiting Okoboji and spending time on the dock, being an avid UNI Panthers fan, and watching his grandchildren, every chance he could get. Jim had a close-knit circle of friends including his McDonald's, Cedar Valley Sports Plex, and 'happy hour' friends. He had a tremendously huge heart and would help anyone with anything, genuinely wanting those around him to be happy. You would frequently hear him say "Let tomorrow worry about itself" and he lived up to that statement. Jim will be missed dearly, but he left a lasting impact on all that knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife Cheryl of Waterloo; children Charles (Sarah) Moore of Golden, CO, Bob Moore of Waterloo and Kristina (Jake) Taylor of Hudson; grandchildren Madison, Grace, and Hope Moore, Lincoln and Nolan Moore and Calvin, Carly and George Taylor; siblings Karen (Gary) Lippe of Okoboji, Steve (Anna) Moore, both of Okoboji, Stan Moore of Fairfax, IA, and Tom (Linda) Moore of Santa Fe, NM; many nieces and nephews. He rejoins in Heaven, his parents.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, November 9th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10th at 11:00 AM at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Burial will follow the funeral service at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors conducted. Memorials may be directed to the family.
