Shirley Elizabeth Dooley

Shirley E. Dooley, 72, of Waterloo, died Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Madrid Home. She was born March 19, 1951, daughter of Erwin and Bernadette (Brinks) Thompson. She graduated from Waterloo West High School. She received an Associate's Dental Hygienist Degree from Hawkeye Community College, and an Administrative Assistant Degree from Hamilton College, where she was on the Dean's List.

Shirley married James Edward Dooley III on November 5, 1971, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2019. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at Shelters Insurance, and later at Ocwen. She also worked as a dental hygienist in the area.

She was a very giving, loving person, and her family was very important to her. She also enjoyed crying to sappy movies and going to garage sales.

Shirley is survived by her children: James Edward Dooley IV (Leslie) of Nevada, and Rosalie Stone of La Porte City; her grandchildren: Ayden and Maddie Dooley, and TJ Stone; sisters: Tammy Thompson Napoli, Theresa Long, and Bev Sales; and brothers: Steve and Dave Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and sister, Maggie Norris.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16, at 2:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Memorials may be directed to the family.
