OBITUARY FOR: Matthew A. Flores

Matthew A. Flores, 30, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. He was born on April 3, 1994 in Waterloo, the son of Michael and Judy (Lagow) Flores. Matthew graduated from West High School in 2015.

Matthew was born with a rare disease that left him wheelchair dependent and required 24×7 care. He remained in his home until his death and was cared for by his family and some amazing caregivers.

Matthew loved watching birds, listening to music, especially his mom's worship music and watching the Dixie Chicks videos. When he was younger, he enjoyed the 4th Street Cruise with his dad and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. His smile was infectious, and he touched the lives of many.

Matthew is survived by: his mom, Judy of Waterloo; brother, Wesley Flores of Waterloo; maternal grandparents, Rev. Carl and Margaret Lagow of Waterloo; paternal grandparents, Sgt. Maj. M.A. and Sonia Hernandez of Flint, MI. His additional guardian with his mother, Heather (Mike) Dean and her extended family, Brooklyn, Berlin, and Blake. Many Aunts and Uncles, and cousins.

Matthew is preceded in death by his father.

Services: 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 1645 Downing Ave., Waterloo.

Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2024 at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo.

Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.
